So, after years of procrastination, I'm building a game portal, for better or worse. At present I'm only intending to host my own games.
The decision I'm facing is whether to invest in google appengine, or not. My only concern is whether it's unnecessarily restricting my target audience, or whether it its actually supplying me with a read-made target audience.

There are some technical restrictions in using GAE but some that would limit your audience?
Are you referring to the Google Account login facility provided? I believe there are ways to provide your own if you think of it as a restriction.
I'm mostly concerned about using google login, and requiring it's mandatory use.
It doesn't bother me, but I guess it would be smart to provide alternatives.
I share your concerns then and would provide an alternative ;)
